How to Calculate Paint Quantity for Building

Painting structures after their construction is one of the most essential parts which give a look to the construction. Another use of paint is that it prevents the walls from harsh weather and acts as a coating. This blog post sheds light on how to calculate paint quantity for a building.

Before going into the details, knowing the two types of gallons is pertinent: UK and US
1 US gallon = 3.785 litres

1 Uk gallon = 4.546 litres

In this blog we will see US calculations

A Real Life Example

How to Calculate Paint Quantity for Building

L = length of the wall = 20 ft.

H = Height of the wall = 15 ft.

A = Area of the wall = L * H = 20 * 15 = 300 sqft.

Direct Rule for Paint

1 gallon of paint can cover up to 350 sqft area of wet wall area

1 gallon of paint can cover up to 200 sqft of drywall area

Paint Quantity of Wet Wall

Area of the wet wall = L * H = 20 * 15 = 300 sqft.

Paint-covered Area = 350 sqft.

Quantity of paint = 300/350 = 0.8571 litre

Let the Price of one Gallon of Paint in the US = $50

Price of 0.8571-litre gallon paint = 0.8571 * $50 = $42.855

Paint Quantity of Dry Wall

Area of the wet wall = L * H = 20 * 15 = 300 sqft.

Paint-covered Area = 200 sqft.

Quantity of paint = 200/350 = 0.571 litre

Let the Price of one Gallon of Paint in the US = $50

Price of 0.571-litre gallon paint = 0.571 * $50 = $28.55

Where there will be an opening for windows, doors or vents. That area will be subtracted.

How to Calculate Paint Quantity for Building

Conclusion

Calculating the paint quantity for a building is an essential step in ensuring an accurate and efficient painting project. By following the necessary steps, such as measuring the surface area, determining the paint coverage rate, and accounting for multiple coats, one can estimate the required amount of paint with greater accuracy. This calculation process allows for better planning, and cost estimation, and ensures an adequate supply of paint, resulting in a successful and satisfactory painting job for any building.
